Music Liturgy
Music is an integral part of the liturgy. It helps the congregation express and share the gift of faith that is within them. Music brings a sense of unity to the assembly and sets the tone for a particular celebration.
The Music Liturgy is an essential component of our worship to God with elaborated expressions through religious music using vocals, traditional instruments and electronics in today’s Music Liturgy. If you love music and you feel passionate about supporting our Music Ministry, you might want to consider one of the following options:
Adult Choir: Adults of all ages who love to sing and can carry a tune are invited to join. This choir leads the singing at our 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays and other special liturgies during the year. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.
Youth Choir: Our Youth Choir is open to children from 3rd grade through high school. This choir leads the singing at our 9:00 a.m. Mass on Sundays and for other special masses during the year. Rehearsals are every Wednesday eveing at 5:30 p.m.
Spanish Choir: The Spanish Choir leads the singing at our 12:15 p.m. Sunday Mass throughout the year. The choir is open to high school students and all adults. Rehearsal is held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Guitarists are greatly needed for this group.
Musicians: If you play an instrument (keyboard, guitar, drums, flute, trumpet, violin, or other instrument) and would like to be a part of this ministry, we would be happy to have you share your talent by joining us.
For more information on our Music Ministry, please contact the Music Director, Stephen Whitton at (727) 849-7521.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
As Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, we are called to deepen our devotion to the Holy Eucharist and to model our lives more closely to the Lord. We are called to minister to the people of God by assisting the priest in the distribution of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, within the Mass or by taking communion to the sick. This is needed in the absence of a sufficient number of priests and deacons. To be considered for this ministry of humble service and immense love, you must be a registered member of the parish in good standing with the church and approved by the pastor. If you would like to be considered for this ministry, please call the Parish office (727) 849-7521.
Altar Servers
Youth Altar Servers: Altar Servers assist the priest in the celebration of the liturgy. Their duties include lighting and candles, carrying the cross in procession, holding the book for the priest and preparing the altar. Those who have made their First Communion and are in Grade 3 or above are invited to serve in this special ministry. Training is provided.
Adult Altar Servers: These men and women serve daily mass and Holy Day masses when the youth altar servers are not available. Training is provided.
Adult Altar Servers for Funerals: Adult servers assist the priest in setting up for the funeral mass, by preparing the incense and holy water, carrying the cross in the procession and preparing the altar for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Training is provided.
Lectors (Readers)
Adult Readers:
Lectors proclaim the Word of God, mediating an encounter with God by making the text come alive for the parishioners of Our Lady Queen of Peace. Proclaiming the Word of God involves an active sharing of faith between the lector and members of the congregation. Adult lectors are assigned to read at all masses including Holy Days, weekdays, and funeral masses. In addition to reading Scripture, the Lectors greet the congregation, read announcements, and lead the Prayer of the Faithful. Training is provided and required.
Youth Readers:
Any youth of our parish who has made their First Communion and are in the 5th – 12th grade can be considered for this ministry. The proclamation of God’s word is a very special service to God and our parish. Youth readers serve at the 9:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday. Those who are in high school may be considered for other weekend masses and special liturgies. Training is required.
Ushers and Greeters
“Yours is the first of Christ’s faces to greet God’s people as they assemble for prayer.”
This is a ministry for young and old, new and long-time parishioners. Ministers of Hospitality provide a welcoming atmosphere for those who come together to worship at our house of prayer. With just a smile or a word of welcome they help to make everyone who enters feel at home. They assist with seating, taking up the collection, directing the Eucharistic procession and distributing bulletins or other material. Ministers of Hospitality also tidy up before and after mass so that the church always appears neat and inviting. Training is provided and volunteers are always needed and welcome.
Liturgical Environment
This committee plans and decorates the church and sanctuary for the liturgical seasons of the year (Advent, Lent, Ordinary Time) and also the major feasts (Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, All Saints, All Souls, etc.). If you are a person who enjoys being part of an energetic group of parishioners or have any floral or design talents, please consider joining us.
Church Angels of the Lord
This group of parishioners sets order to the pews after the weekend masses. They also assist with decorating the church hall for the monthly dinners.
Rosary Altar Society
The Rosary Altar Society meets once a month on the 3rd Monday and recites the Rosary in the Faith Formation Building at 1pm. After the meeting, coffee and cake are served. The Rosary Altar Society hosts bazaars, card parties, bakeless bake sales, rummage sales, and an anunual fashion show. Money raised from these activities help the parish with the cost of hosts and sacramental wine, as well as linens and holy water. Members also host a Card and Game Party and Luncheon.
Sacristans
These are dedicated parishioners who serve our worship “behind the scenes”, whose ministry is to prepare the church for weekend Masses, Holy Days, and other special liturgical celebrations.
